Slippery Elm homemade cough drops - Home herbal remedy lozenge for a sore throat ♥

Sore throats and coughs have been re-surfacing around us.
In preperation, I thought we should perhaps have some cough drops to hand.
An activity little fingers just adore to help me with.

1/2 cup slippery elm powder
2T raw, unfiltered honey
1/4 cup strong chamomile tea
optional - 1t grated fresh organic ginger

Mixed together into a dough. Press flat and cut out small round discs (with a
plastic bottle lid) or a tiny cookie cutter (we uses a star shape).
Lay out on a tray. Freeze for an hour and then keep in an airtight container.

We keep them in the freezer.
For longevity too, but mostly because they feel more refreshing on a hot, sore throat.

You'll find many varying recipes for Slippery Elm cough drops or sore throat soothers online. We've tweaked these recipes over the last few years, to find one this one that works for us.

  1. Thanks for this. I make these, except I use strong licorice root tea instead of chamomile.
