Cooking with Kids - Summer Milkshake Iceblock Milk

My little ones LOVE to be let loose 'all by themselves' in the kitchen.
At age 4 and 6 they really are capable, but I still keep a watchful eye...
Sharp knives, balancing on chairs and electricity all play their part in keeping this Mama nearby.

Today we made milkshakes.

Little Pipkin's Watermelon / Strawberry Mix
1/8th small watermelon (seeded), 250g punnet strawberries, 2T natural yoghurt, 1/4 cup milk, 1t maple syrup (optional - take a taste test! )
Blend until smooth.

Mr Turtle's Mango / Banana mix
1 mango, 2 bananas, 2T sheeps yoghurt, 1/4 cup goat's milk.
Blend until smooth!

Drink as much as you can, then freeze the leftovers to make iceblocks, for future enjoyment on hot summer afternoons...

My little 'Craftists' (craft-artists)

This is more than a proud Mama post.
It is.
I thought others might get some creative activity ideas.
That's why I wrote this post.
Yes. That's why.

The works below are both fairly recently created by my youngest aged 4.
Little Pipkin.

A needle felted 'HUG' gnome (with blanket).
A return gift for a friend who gave her own hug gnome to our boys, very nearly the same.
So, a copy, but Oh So Sweet!

'Pictures in their own frames', I was told when these were presented to me.
I'd wondered what he'd been up to downstairs.
The first is  one of the Billy Goats Gruff.
The second is a portrait of me. I see the resemblance.

And this 'Dragon Lair' was built by Mr Turtle aged 6.
He made it secretly for his brother as a gift to house the the tiny dragon Little Pipkin had bought at a school market day.

My swollen heart fills with pride and love
at these giving, loving little boys,
who fill my life with light.

Holiday crafting

I have found that kids love to play with kids more than anything.
The next highest love is 'doing'.
Whether that be digging, baking or making - they're drawn to it.

During the school holidays we did a lot of craft.
With lots of little local friends.
My favourite part was teaching some of the kids to finger knit and hand-sew, who had never done it before. Of course they got the hang of both in minutes.
Kids do.

Needle felting day. Making dolls and pictures.
Hand-sewing day. Making decorations and pin cushions.
Shell and bead Christmas decoration, by a non-sewer!
Spring fleece doll by a 6 year old!

Garden spirit gnome doll, by Mr Turtle

Sunset over a Robin in Snow. Needle felt picture by Little Pipkin

We had a wonderful school holiday break.
How was yours?
