excerpt from Babies Don’t Keep
by Ruth Hulburt Hamilton
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.
I've had these words up on my wall now, for almost 6 years. I adore them.
I laid with my little ones (aged 3 & 5) yesterday as they napped. Just watching them. They were so peaceful and warm and delicious.
However, today, they are awake, squabbling and my house is looking unloved!
The words of this poem help keep me mindful, at moments like these.
